The BIG Texas Road trip (part 1)

Updated: Feb 22

I don't even know where to begin this blog post! So, I'm going to include separate posts for the various areas we visited. In Texas, you go big or go home! We went BIG with our expectations for this week and how much we set out to see!

A dream trip of mine had been to see the blue bonnets in bloom in Texas during spring! Most think of Texas and want to go to Waco but not me (and nothing wrong with Waco - we had actually planned to include but the Silos were closed the day we were near them)! Being a photographer too, I have some unusual and off the beaten path things I'd like to venture off seeing. So, I set out researching and planning a trip for Spring Break around a map I found online of the blue bonnet loop! Meanwhile, I prayed mother nature would be in our favor with them in bloom our dates and a peak blooming year!

Texas Blue Bonnets - inspiration for this road trip and they did not disappoint!

Long before becoming a travel agent, I was known in our area for many of my road trips! I plan extensively and often have a bit too rigorous schedule for most! But I take my knowledge and then create more relaxing trip itineraries for clients that aren't up to going nonstop like me! I always find the best stops, restaurants you need to dine at, and many unique sites along the way.

After quite a few weeks, I had the trip planned out! Let me tell you, Texas is HUGE! I knew we've be driving a lot, but I also knew it was doable to see all the places on my list for the week! I also tend to map out distances and plan things meticulously. Looking back, I did plan too much in such a short period of time; however, it was an amazing road trip covering so much territory! I'd definitely go back to Texas again!

Part one of this adventurous week began driving from Georgia to Fort Worth! It's a nice drive! We absolutely loved the Fort Worth area! It was one of my teen daughter's favorite areas! We spent the day at the Stockyards. I do wish I'd planned to leave a different day so we could have attended a rodeo.

The stockyards were simply fun! This is a great family area and one children will enjoy! Seeing those longhorns in person is something else! You can't understand their size until you see them in person! There are so many shops, restaurants, and activities. You can horseback ride, see the daily cattle drive, visit the animals in the petting zoo, go to a museum, buy a Texas cowboy hat, ride in a horse drawn carriage, and eat some of the best BBQ your lips have touched! We crammed in all that we could and then ventured to the downtown area for dinner! We also enjoyed the vibe of the downtown area! It seemed appealing to younger crowd with bars but some great family friendly restaurants.

All in all, Fort Worth is a must see! Great for the family! Great for a bachelorette trip or couples! So much to do and fun to be had! Stay tuned to part two of the Texas Road trip!
